MLMs and Other Business Models

MLMs and Other Business Models

Who do you buy your oils and products from?

Different companies have various ways that they get their stock and raw ingredients

Equally, different companies will have differing attitudes to their business model in respect of the quality of product, price charged for the product and honesty in marketing the product.

Models

Your supplier may be one of the following:-

  1. A large company that may deal directly with growers/distillers or manufacturers. They will have their own in-house experts overseeing the quality and nature of the products.

  1. A large company that simply works with another intermediary company or companies that source and supply the raw ingredients and products.

  2. A smaller company that cares very much about the quality of the product and works with one or two other companies for its supplies. The intermediary is usually the expert and deals directly with the growers/distillers, etc. and sources and imports (usually) the product in bulk. Smaller companies tend not to be able to finance and then sell the quantities needed by buying in bulk.

  3. A small companies who buys its stock from anybody and anywhere, caring more about the price they pay.

There are, of course, other models

Across these different models knowledge of the product and application varies considerably. For some companies the only true motive is profit, and almost! Anything is considered to get you to buy their product.

MLM’s Multi-Level Marketing

The business model has layers of people selling the product, all taking a percentage cut from a sale. So, within the cost of their product is enough profit to pay the levels of agents and the company its share.

One of those models includes MLM-style companies. Who over the years, have had bad reputations for aggressive marketing, false information and wild medical claims.

“I remember in the 90's having communication with other professionals about Forever Living, an American company. The accusation against them were lies, false claims and overpricing. However, they became a very large company because the customer fell for their strong marketing techniques.”

“In 2014, the company Young Living had real problems with the FDA about the very same things. They even claimed that one of their products would CURE Ebola!. Since then, they have been accused of further issues”

At Us Them and U we more or less follow business model 3. Only the very largest specialist companies can deal directly with growers and producers and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Essential Oils and vegetable oils grow around the world, the expert! Needs to travel to places of production to check and validate the supplier, and to develop a good relationship with them.

For us, quality comes first, price second. We have worked with the same trusted suppliers for over 30 years.

Here and Now

To this day, some companies choose to bend or misrepresent the information they pass to you, usually to suit their own ends. Sometimes they get caught out for making false claims. The use of social media is largely not policed, and companies can say what they like.

For you, the poor customer you have to sift this information and it is a problem I guess you would rather not have.

In Conclusion

There are many companies selling aromatherapy products now, all I will advise is be careful where you buy your product from and always be catiuos if you think “it is too good to be true”

Make an effort to gain some knowledge about aromatherapy and pure essential oils.
