Head shaking or ear scratching is often the first sign of an underlying ear problem for dogs ( and cats). Addressing it early and adequately can prevent painful, chronic ear disease. Sometimes it is quite simply debris, especially if your dog loves hunting through hedges, woods and thickets. Inevitably, then, certain breeds are more prone to possible ear problems; Springer Spaniels come to mind!

Dogs experiencing early ear irritation may scratch more frequently and sleep restlessly due to the discomfort. If your dog’s ear problems are chronic or seasonal, allergies are highly likely. Managing the underlying allergy is key to breaking the infection cycle. Speak to your veterinarian.

Our product is totally safe to use. It will not do any damage even if it does not help the itching. If the cause of the itching is debris, mild inflammation from an allergy or moisture buildup, then our product may help. (see ingredients list)

First (obviously) !

Inspect the Ear and look for:

Redness 

Warm Ears

Swelling

Debris

Abnormal Odour

If you see thick discharge or your dog reacts painfully, stop and call your vet.

Gently Clean (If Appropriate)

You may use our Rose Otto or Chamomile Hydrolats if you have some. Customers are using our Rose Otto Hydrolat to keep weepy eyes clean and fresh.

Never use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol.

Do not insert cotton swabs into the canal.

Cleaning removes debris and moisture that fuel irritation.

Using a dropper or gauze pad soaked in the oil, get some of the mixture into your dog's (or cats') ear. Very gently rub some mixture around. Obviously, this may be more difficult to do with some dogs or cats! If you cannot efficiently get the oil mixture into the ear, then do not force it; go and consult a vet.

Our first trial of this mixture was on Belle, a young terrier. David, her owner, has reported some success and no negative reaction. We, many years ago, used a similar mixture with our cat, Holly.

Calendula Oi infusion - Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Calendula officinalis flower extract

Tea Tree – Melaleuca alternifolia

Rosemary – Rosmarinus officinalis

Note:- You may read on the internet that you should not use Tea Tree on dogs or cats. In this mixture, the percentage of Tea tree is low enough to be safe but still works its anti microbial and anti-bacterial properties.
