Uses

Effective against

  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Fungi
  • Acne
  • Toenail fungus
  • Athlete's foot
  • Dandruff
  • Lice
  • Bad breath

Do not ingest Tea Tree, especially if you are unsure of the source. I have used it against mouth ulcers diluted in water as a mouthwash, but I spit it out after. The taste is not pleasant.

Employed largely for its antimicrobial properties, TTO is incorporated as the active ingredient in many topical formulations used to treat cutaneous infections. It is widely available over the counter in Australia, Europe, and North America and is marketed as a remedy for various ailments.

Perfect for: blemish-prone skin, oily complexions, evening relaxation, unwinding after a stressful day, freshening the home

How to Use Tea Tree Essential Oil

In a diffuser: Add 4–6 drops to your diffuser with water. Tea tree is outstanding for purifying the air during cold and flu season and creating a clean, fresh-smelling home. Run for 30–60 minutes.

Topical application: Tea tree is one of the very few essential oils that can be applied neat to the skin in small amounts — a single drop directly on a spot, insect bite or minor graze is a time-honoured first-aid approach. For larger areas, dilute 2–3 drops in 10ml of a carrier oil such as our Organic Jojoba Oil.

For acne and blemishes: Dab a single drop onto the blemish with a clean cotton bud. For a full facial treatment, add 2–3 drops to 10ml of jojoba and apply as an evening facial oil. Our Tea Tree in Aloe Vera Gel is a ready-made option for this.

For feet and nails: Add 4–5 drops to a warm foot bath for athlete's foot and toenail concerns. For targeted application, use our Tea Tree Cream directly on the affected area.

For scalp and hair: Add 5–6 drops to your shampoo for dandruff support, or use our Healthy Hair Lice treatment for a proven natural head lice solution.

For children: Tea tree is safe for children over 2 years at half the adult dilution. Our Tea Tree Roller Ball is a convenient, pre-diluted option for on-the-go first aid with kids.

For lips: Our Tea Tree Lip Balm harnesses tea tree's purifying properties in a nourishing, protective balm.

In the bath: Blend 4–6 drops with a tablespoon of carrier oil and add to warm running water for a cleansing, purifying soak.

Blends well with: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon and Rosemary.

Safety: Tea tree can be applied neat in small, targeted amounts but always patch test first. For external use only — do not ingest. Keep away from eyes. Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy without professional advice.
